Resumes are important to assist any potential employer to gain an interest on your experience, and to want to interview you. Your resume provides a quick presentation of of your previous education, training, skills and work experience, and any important accomplishments you have made in past career positions.
Often times, employers will view a resume with a photo as unprofessional. Putting bias aside, a photo is irrelevant to skills, experience and qualifications. If a company has a system that scans through resumes, they often times are unable to even view a photo.
Some employers use a software application called applicant tracking system (ATS) which skims through and quickly interprets and sorts applicant resumes. We recommend using a font that is professional and easy for not only ATS, but to recruiters and employers as well. Try using one of these fonts:
Resumes should provide a potential employer with the most important information that relates your previous experience and skills, with the role you are applying to. If you are fresh out of education, or a recent college graduate, we recommend a one page resume. On the flip side, if you have been working in an industry or position for an extensive amount of time, you may have an additional page on your resume to explain your accomplishments, roles and responsibilities. If you have been working in the oil and gas industry for the last 30 years, including your first job at local car wash, just isn't necessary.
